Greek ferryboat Eleftherios Venizelos with 875 passengers on board was safely evacuated at the port of Piraeus Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in the garage of the ship.
The fire on Eleftherios Venizelos with destination Chania, Crete, probably started on a truck. The rescue and research operations centre was immediately informed and nine Coast Guard vessels, tugboats, a trunk vessel and three passenger ships rushed in the area.
The Fire Brigade also assisted with two ships and a special unit for disasters. All passengers are good in health and some of them have been transferred to nearby hotels.
