Whereas main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, remaining true to his positions, had managed to look past party rivalries and vote for the splitting up of the large electoral constituencies in Attica, the prime minister had been unable to do the same thing for allowing Greeks abroad to vote, ND MP Vassilis Kikilias said.
In an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Sunday, Kikilias said the government’s stance was “a brutal insult” and “a toxic and classist policy” that politically exiled Greeks that had emigrated abroad.
Referring to ND’s amendment for not cutting pensions, Kikilias said this proved that the main opposition does not want pension cuts, while the only way to save the pension system was through an “deluge of investments” that would create new and well-paid jobs, increasing revenues.
He was critical of decisions for the return of refugees to Greece from Europe, saying it showed that the prime minister was powerless and at the mercy of orders issues from foreign centres, while calling for the revision of Dublin II.
