Prespes agreement gives new prospects to the region, said Tsipras at the 4th quadrilateral meeting

In the last year, just about no one would have expected that so many things would change in our region, said Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Wednesday after the completion of the 4th quadrilateral meeting that includes Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia.

“In 2015-2016 we experienced the refugee crisis and the economic crisis in Greece, and 2017 was a difficult year for the region with the serious political crises in Albania and FYROM,” said Tsipras.
He added that the initiative of the quadrilateral meetings coincide with the reversal of negative developments for the Balkans and the start of a positive momentum.

In this time, there was the signing of an important agreement between Bulgaria and FYROM, the “very successful” Bulgarian presidency and the exceptionally important EU-western Balkans summit in Sofia – an idea that came out of the quadrilateral meetings.

“In this time we had the historic Prespes agreement. A year ago it probably seemed impossible to achieve but it is a fact and puts the basis to solve an exceptionally important issue, giving new prospects to the whole area,” added the Greek premier.
