Panos Kammenos gives briefing of armed forces support to the wildfires emergency

Defence Minister Panos Kammenos, in a briefing on Tuesday, outlined the activities and the assistance provided by the Armed Forces in the fight against fires.
Kammenos expressed the ministry’s deep sympathy with the families of the victims, adding that the number of people rescued by the frigate “Elli” reached 160 and four dead bodies were recovered. Navy’s vessels are continuing to search the sea as there is information concerning a missing person.
“This is a great disaster, an unprecedented destruction within the urban fabric, especially in the area of Rafina, but also in Kineta. The weather conditions favoured the spread of the fire and led to a large number of victims,” Kammenos said.
