Main opposition New Democracy on Thursday criticised announcements by the ruling coalition parties SYRIZA and Independent Greeks (ANEL) that their members would “boycott” programmes by the private radio and television channel SKAI, refusing to appear on its programmes.

“Instead of the government fabricating enemies, as it is prone to do, let it finally provide answers to the pressing questions regarding the national tragedy. Reality cannot be faced with boycotts,” ND sources said.

Following a press release from the prime minister’s office that angrily denied a Skai report about the supposed firing of the fire brigade and police chiefs in the wake of the fires, accusing it of deliberately trying to undermine morale, SYRIZA and ANEL had issued announcements saying there members would no longer take part in Skai programmes.
