Mayor of Elefsina asks Alexis Tsipras’ help to implement antiflood projects in the region

Elefsina mayor Giorgos Tsoukalas has asked Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to intervene and help overcome red tape procedures holding up antiflood projects in the area, located west of Athens.

After the latest floods, Tsoukalas said that no infrastructure project has essentially begun despite promises from government officials to solve the problems after fatal floods struck Mandra in November.

“We don’t want to think of the image of a city in two years that will be European cultural capital in 2021 and will be planning along with the risk of flood,” the mayor said in a letter sent to the prime minister.
