The two issues that remain for an agreement with FYROM are the erga omnes application of the name decided and a revision of that country’s Constitution, stated Alternate Foreign Minister responsible for European Affairs George Katrougalos, talking to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency radio station “Praktoreio” on Tuesday.

“These are issues that are not minor, which FYROM has insisted upon to date. The ball is now in their court,” Katrougalos said, adding: “For us these issues are essential and prerequisites for a solution; the other side must make the necessary concessions,” explained Katrougalos.
“We want the revision of the Constitution so that the solution is permanent and the erga omnes [clause] so we don’t leave any tail ends that may create prospects of irredentism in the future. Both are necessary, therefore, even if for different reasons,” he said.

Asked to comment the developments in Gaza and the deaths of Palestinian demonstrators, Katrougalos reiterated that “Greece’s stance is steadily in favour of the existence of two states in the area, we recognise the right to life and security but also the Palestinians’ right to have their own country.”
