Pavlopoulos message to Erdogan: “We will not give up our territory or borders”

In another stern message to Ankara and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday, President of the Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos underlined that Greece wants to live in peace with its neighbours, desiring nothing from them but is also absolutely not prepared to give anything away.

“We declare that we are a people and a nation of peace. But we are a people and nation that will not, under any circumstances, give up even one iota of its territory, borders and sovereignty,” he said.
“The feature that marks politicians that want to be called “great” is that of measuring their words. And, mainly, knowing that their democratic ethos, their democratic existence and therefore their state existence depends on respect for culture and history,” Pavlopoulos added, in a statement directed at Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

If such respect was lacking, he added, “then no size can be considered great, or, at least, command our respect – either that of us Greeks nor of the European Union, nor of the international community,” he added, stressing that this position was absolutely clear and in line with Greek, European and western culture in general.

Pavlopoulos made the statements in Messinia, after a memorial service for the 25th anniversary since the death of the Metropolitan of France Meletios Karabinis.
