Cyprus, Greece, Israel Summit takes place on Thursday: Tsipras, Anastasiades in Jerusalem




A Cyprus, Greece and Israel Summit takes place on Thursday in Jerusalem and is expected to focus among others on energy matters, the environment, tourism, research and innovation, combating terrorism and the Cyprus reunification process.

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, who departs on Wednesday for Israel, will take part in the Summit together with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, an official press release issued here today says.

Bilateral meetings between them are set to take place before the Trilateral Summit which is expected to start around 1100 hours (0800 GMT).

“Energy matters, the environment, tourism, research and innovation, combating terrorism as well as the current state of affairs in Cyprus` reunification process are among the matters which will be discussed at the summit and the bilateral meetings,” the press release says.

President Anastasiades is accompanied by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Minister Nicos Kouyialis and Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides.

Trilateral ministerial meetings on energy and environmental matters will take place on the sidelines of the summit.

President Anastasiades together with the Cypriot delegation return to Cyprus on Friday morning.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN brokered talks resumed in May 2015 aiming to reunite the island under a federal roof.
