Σύσκεψη με Ομπάμα για την ασφάλεια στο Διαδίκτυο μετά τις αποκαλύψεις για την NSA

Ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος, Μπαράκ Ομπάμα, συναντήθηκε την Παρασκευή με έξι στελέχη τεχνολογικών εταιριών, μεταξύ των οποίων της Google και του Facebook, προκειμένου να συζητήσουν θέματα που αφορούν στην ασφάλεια στο Διαδίκτυο, μετά το σκάνδαλο που ξέσπασε σχετικά με τις δραστηριότητες της Εθνικής Υπηρεσίας Ασφαλείας (NSA).
Στη συνάντηση παρευρέθηκαν ο Μαρκ Ζούκερμπεργκ του Facebook (φωτογραφία), ο Έρικ Σμιτ της Google, ο Ριντ Χέιστινγκς του Netfix, ο Ντριου Χιούστον του Dropbox, ο Άλεξ Καρπ της Palantir Technologies και ο Άαρον Λέβι του Box.
Κύριο θέμα της συζήτησης ήταν οι «πληροφορίες, η τεχνολογία και η προστασία της ιδιωτικής ζωής», αναφέρει το γερμανικό πρακτορείο Ειδήσεων επικαλούμενο σχετική ανακοίνωση του Λευκού Οίκου. Ο Ομπάμα ενημέρωσε τα έξι στελέχη σχετικά με την πρόοδο στην εφαρμογή των μεταρρυθμίσεων που είχε αναγγείλει τον Ιανουάριο.
«Ο πρόεδρος επανέλαβε τη δέσμευση της κυβέρνησης να λάβει μέτρα που θα κάνουν τους ανθρώπους να νιώθουν μεγαλύτερη σιγουριά ότι τα δικαιώματά τους προστατεύονται και παράλληλα υπάρχουν σημαντικά εργαλεία που μας κρατούν ασφαλείς», αναφέρεται στην ανακοίνωση.
Την περασμένη εβδομάδα, ο Ζούκερμπεργκ είχε τηλεφωνική επικοινωνία με τον Ομπάμα, όπου ο ιδρυτής του Facebook εξέφρασε τη δυσαρέσκειά του στον Αμερικανό πρόεδρο σχετικά με το πρόγραμμα παρακολούθησης της κυβέρνησης, μετά από δημοσιεύματα που ανέφεραν ότι η NSA είχε «εισχωρήσει» στους σέρβερς του Facebook με σκοπό να μολύνει με κακόβουλο λογισμικό συγκεκριμένους υπολογιστές.

Readout of the President’s meeting with CEOs
Today, the President and senior members of his team met with Executives from several leading U.S. tech companies as part of a continuing dialogue with the private sector, civil society, and others on issues surrounding intelligence, technology and privacy. The President used this opportunity to update the CEOs on our progress in implementing the principles and reforms he announced on January 17, including the new Presidential Directive he issued to govern our intelligence activities that will ensure that we take into account our security requirements, but also our alliances; our trade and investment relationships, including the concerns of our companies; and our commitment to privacy and basic liberties.
The President reiterated his Administration’s commitment to taking steps that can give people greater confidence that their rights are being protected while preserving important tools that keep us safe. The President also updated the CEOs on the comprehensive “big data” review being led by John Podesta, which looks at how “big data” will affect the way we live and work; the relationship between government and citizens; and how the public and private sectors can spur innovation and maximize the opportunities and free flow of this information while minimizing the risks to privacy.
