PM Mitsotakis: ‘A permanent increase in incomes a shield against high prices’

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis began his weekly Sunday review by reminding voters at home and abroad of the fast-approaching deadline for sending in their postal votes by courier, on May 28 for those abroad and on June 3 for voters in Greece.
Going over the past week, he welcomed Ergani figures showing an increase in the number of employees for yet another month in April, including an increase in full-time jobs. He also cited a decrease in the number of jobless, noting that their number had dropped below 900,000 for the first time since 2011, and ELSTAT figures indicating an increase in salaries.
“A permanent increase in citizens’ incomes is also a strong shield against the major problem of high prices, the most pressing problem currently facing Greek households,” he said, again stressing the government’s determination to tackle the high cost of living.
The prime minister then welcomed the introduction of new electric buses to the public transport fleet in Athens and Thessaloniki and said that more than 90 pct of the ‘My Home’ programme for low-cost housing loans had been disbursed.
Mitsotakis concluded by talking about the extension of the ‘Panic Button’ application to all domestic abuse victims, of either sex, throughout the country, the conclusion of negotiations on the national strategy for disability 2024-2030, the major ring of drug traffickers taken down by the Hellenic Police and the upcoming game in the Euroleague final for Greek team Panathinaikos.
