Parliament passes bill to curb sports fan violence with broad majority

The bill of measures to curb sports fan violence was passed by Parliament in principle on Thursday with a broad majority, with the support of ruling New Democracy, opposition PASOK-KINAL and the Plefsi Eleftherias party.

Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Elliniki Lysi and the Spartiates party abstained, while the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Nea Aristera and Niki voted against.

An amendment with measures for farm electricity facilitations, the start of the process for the minimum wage, athlete transfers and copyright was backed by all the parties apart from KKE and Nea Aristera, while the amendment establishing a National Sports Fan Day was backed by all parties except for Niki.
