Two men arrested as suspected members of a group of assassins that murdered three people with a key role in the criminal organisations known as the ‘Greek Mafia’ were taken before a public prosecutor on Thursday, accompanied by a strong police escort.

The suspects, wearing bullet-proof vests, were taken to the Evelpidon courts at 13:00 on Thursday, in unmarked police cars. They will be charged on the basis of the evidence collected by the police and then led before the examining magistrate handling the case.

Three persons have been arrested for suspected involvement in the assassinations of Yiannis Skaftouros, Vassilis Roubetis and Dionyssis Mouzakitis. They include two men, aged 29 and 39, respectively, who were arrested on Wednesday afternoon and a third suspect arrested on Wednesday evening during a police raid on a residence where cartridges for Kalashnikov rifles were found. It is not yet clear whether the third individual arrested was involved in committing the murders or was an associate of those who carried out the killings.

A total of eight inviduals are included in the case file put together by the homicide team, of which one is being sought, two are believed to have fled abroad and the rest are in prison.

The members of the group are facing charges for participation in a criminal organisation, three homicides and three attempted murders.
