Greek National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias spent New Year’s Day on the border island of Limnos, “together with those who defend our sovereignty and sovereign rights,” as he said.

Dendias paid a visit to Armed Forces on the island, including the 130 Combat Group of the Hellenic Air Force (including F-16s and the Super Puma helicopter carrying out search and rescue operations), and the ‘Polemistis’ gunboat of the Hellenic Navy at the port of Myrina.

The defense minister expressed “once again my deepest respect to the devotion and professionalism of our Armed Forces’ officers, who guard Greece’s territory, as well support Greek society in every difficulty,” and wished all officers and their families well for 2024.

Earlier in the day, Dendias attended the celebratory liturgy for the New Year at the cathedral church of Aghia Triada in Myrina that was led by Metropolitan Ierotheos of Limnos and Aghios Efstratios.
