A meeting between Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi was held in a cordial atmosphere in Cairo on Wednesday. During the meeting, talks focused on bilateral and regional issues, with an emphasis on the Middle East crisis, according to diplomatic sources.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry was also present during Gerapetritis’ meeting with the Egyptian President and the road map for the further promotion of bilateral relations between Greece and Egypt was discussed.

The meeting lasted 45 minutes, exceeding the scheduled time, the same sources said.

Next on the schedule is a meeting between the two foreign ministers at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by a working lunch and a joint press conference. Developments in the Middle East are expected to be high on the agenda of their talks, along with bilateral relations, amid rising tensions in the region and concerns over regional destabilisation, from the Red Sea to Lebanon.

After the conclusion of the bilateral contacts, Gerapetritis is to meet in Cairo with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

Upon his arrival in Cairo, Gerapetritis met with representatives of the Greek community in Egypt, at the consular residence.
