Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias received on Friday UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen at the Foreign Ministry in Athens.

The meeting focused on the developments in Syria, the Foreign Ministry posted on Twitter.
The meeting was held on the occasion of Pedersen’s participation in an informal meeting or “retreat” for Syria that will be held in Athens (at the Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso hotel in Kavouri) on April 21-23.

The retreat for Syria is organised by the European Union with the contribution of the Greek foreign ministry. The event will, among others, be attended by the EU member-state special representatives for Syria.

The hosting of the above event in Greece indicates Greece’s interest in the developments in Syria and that it recognises the importance of a solution for Syria in ensuring conditions of stability and security in the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean, the foreign ministry said.
