he Greek Supreme Court’s disciplinary board fired another 4 judges in lower courts for long delays in publishing court decisions, stalling the process of providing judgment and completing cases.

With the recent dismissals, a total of 24 judges or prosecutors have been fired in the last 11 months for professional inadequacy.

The four women dismissed were heads of first-instance courts of Athens, and delays in some cases were as long as a year. Deciding on their dismissal was the plenary session of the Supreme Court’s disciplinary board, which included presiding judge Maria Georgiou and chief prosecutor Isidoros Dogiakos.

Delays in trying and publishing decisions has created a chronic backlog in Greek justice, and resolving the issue is one of Greece’s reforms requested by its partners.
