President Anastasiades met with the President of Germany in Berlin: Turkey to refrain from illegal actions

The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, had a meeting today with the President of Germany, Mr Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at the Presidential Palace, in Berlin.

President Anastasiades who is on a working visit in the German capital, arrived at the Presidential Palace (Bellevue Palace) in the morning accompanied by Government Spokesman, Mr Marios Pelekanos, Deputy Minister to the President, Mr Petros Demetriou, and the Director of his Office, Mr Pantelis Pantelides, where he was welcomed by President Steinmeier.

President Anastasiades signed the guest book of the Bellevue Palace and then the two Presidents had a tête-a-tête meeting.

Immediately afterwards, the two Presidents held extended talks with the participation of delegations of the two countries.

Among the topics discussed was the current situation in the Cyprus problem with President Anastasiades conveying the readiness of our side for the resumption of talks, but also the need for Turkey to refrain from illegal actions.

The developments in Ukraine were also discussed, as well as the Immigration, where President Anastasiades referred extensively to the socio-economic effects that stem from the fact that the number of asylum seekers in Cyprus is equivalent to 6% of the population of the Republic of Cyprus.

The two Presidents also discussed energy issues, with President Anastasiades stressing that the Eastern Mediterranean, including the Republic of Cyprus, can be an alternative source of energy resources for Europe.
