Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias met on Thursday in Benghazi the Head of Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

Their talks focused on the need for Libya’s stabilisation and the promotion of peace and stability in the wider region.

As diplomatic sources said, Marshal Haftar used very strict language when talking about the presence of Turkish troops in the country.

He also clearly condemned the Turkish-Libyan memoranda, noting that if there are no general elections by January, other action must be taken.

Haftar spoke very positively about Benghazi’s relations with Athens, as well as the coordination of diplomatic actions with Cairo.

Later, at the port of Benghazi, Dendias attended an event to present Greece’s contribution to the World Food Programme project to rebuild the city’s port, a critical entry point for delivering food and humanitarian assistance/food aid to the wider region of North Africa and the Sahel.

Greek government aeroplane flew from Tripoli to Benghazi via Malta’s FIR

The Greek government aeroplane carrying Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and the Greek delegation from Tripoli to Benghazi flew there via Malta’s FIR.
According to diplomatic sources, the Libyan side refused to approve the flight plans of the Greek government aircraft from Tripoli to Benghazi, resulting in a significant delay in its departure.
Afterwards, it was decided that the flight be held via Malta’s FIR and from there east until the airspace of eastern Libya and finally Benghazi.

FM Dendias donates 30,000 vaccines against COVID-19 to the Libyan people

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, who is in eastern Libya on Thursday, donated 30,000 vaccines against COVID-19 to the Libyan people at an event held at his arrival at Benghazi airport.
In statements, Dendias said that Greece continues to support the Libyan people in their efforts to fight the COVID19 pandemic and is donating additional vaccines, following the donation of 200.000 vaccines in August 2021. “The Greek government is always willing and able to give as many doses of vaccines as you can absorb,” Dendias said, noting that “Greek society considers health a public good to which all the people of the world are entitled”.
