French firefighters in Greece to contribute ine the battlie against the wildfires

A team of French firefighters is in Greece to contribute, along with their Greek colleagues, in the battle against the wildfires in the context of the pre-positioning pilot project implemented by the EU Civil Protection Mechanism programme with the support of the European Commission. Twenty five French firemen will be in Athens until the end of August.

“Your presence here proves again how strong are the ties between the Greek Fire Brigade and the French firefighters. In parallel, it reaffirms the strong historic ties between Greece and France” stated Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Christos Stylianides welcoming the French delegation at an event held at the Fire Brigade Academy noting that the European solidarity is proved via the pre-positioning pilot project.

On his part, the head of the French delegation stated “We will be in Greece in August in order to help your country in the battle against the wildfires.

In parallel, the French delegation said goodbye to their 28 collegues from Romania that left for their country immediately after the conclusion of the event.

It is noted that on Sunday arrived the delegation from Norway while on Monday will arrive in Greece their colleagues from Finland. The Norwegian delegation is comprised by 27 firemen and the Finnish by 48 firemen. Both delegations will stay in the city of Tripolis.
