Strong quake jolts Crete: No connection between recent quakes professor Lekkas says

A strong earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale was recorded at 12:24 on Tuesday, according to Athens National Observatory Geodynamics Institute.
The quake’s epicentre was 23 km east of Zakros and its focal depth was 8.2 km.
No injuries or damages have been reported so far.
Α 4 Richter aftershock was recorded east of Zakros, Crete at 12:36.
Light quake jolts Karpathos
A light earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Ricther scale was recorded northwest of the island of Karpathos at 12:32. The quake was recorded a few minutes after the strong quake that hit Crete.
The Karpathos quake’s focal depth was 12.5 km.
No connection between recent quakes in Crete
The 6.3 Richter quake that shook the village of Zakros on Tuesday is not linked to the 5.8 Richter quake near Arkalochori roughly two weeks ago, professor of seismology Efthymios Lekkas told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Tuesday.
According to Lekkas who is president of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organisation of Greece, the two quakes arose from two different faults.
The professor explained that it was a superficial and shallow earthquake that was felt widely in Crete, the islands of the Dodecanese and the wider region.
