Nabila Makram, Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs, on Thursday expressed her satisfaction with the Memorandum of Understanding on the Diaspora signed during the latest Trilateral Summit of Greece, Egypt and Cyprus in Athens, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades.

“The Memorandum of Understanding on the Diaspora strengthens the relations between the Communities of the three countries around the world,” she said, adding that it focuses on supporting the joint efforts of the Communities of the three countries, with a view to preserving their national identity and exchanging experiences through the bodies that represent them (cultural and social, sports clubs, etc.), deepening relations between the three peoples and supporting the establishment of common events.

She pointed out that the Memorandum of Understanding for the Diaspora of the three countries “is a continuation of the fruitful cooperation with the Greek and Cypriot side in the context of strengthening relations between the Cypriot, Greek and Egyptian communities around the world.”

On this basis, cooperation between the Communities and the encouragement of mechanisms for the exchange of information and experience and the promotion of common values abroad are now being promoted, in order to achieve better cooperation on expatriate issues, especially with regard to young people and investment in the future.

Finally, she stressed that Egypt is willing to cooperate with the peoples of the Mediterranean, restoring historical and cultural roots, but also to tackle illegal migration and the fight against terrorism, while maximising economic cooperation between the three peoples, in continuation of the excellent initiative “NOSTOS – Return to the Roots”, proposed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at the Trilateral Summit in Nicosia in November 2017 and then decided by the leaders of the three countries.
