EU approves 35.9 mln euros in natural disaster, coronavirus aid for Greece

Greece will receive 35.9 million euros from the European Union Solidarity Fund for natural disaster damage in 2020 and the coronavirus pandemic, following approval by the European Commission on Friday.

The funds will be allocated as follows:

– 3.3 million euros for damage by floods in Evia in August 2020
– 21.6 million for damage by the Mediterranean cyclone ‘Ianos’ at the Ionian Islands, Western Greece, Thessaly and Central Greece in September 2020
– 2.5 million for damage by the earthquake on Samos island in October 2020
– 8.5 million to manage the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Development & Investments Ministry said that it had applied for the funds for the above regions, and for the pandemic which the Solidarity Fund included as of 2020.
