Wildfire in Kaza, nead Villia, two villages evacuated: Fire in Karystos, Evia delimited

A wildfire that broke out on Monday in the area of Kaza near Vilia, Attica region on Monday is close to an inhabited area and currently the villages of Vilia and Profitis Ilias are being evacuated for precautionary reasons. The resident received a message to evacute via the emergency number 112.

The firefighting forces were enhanced and currently 25 fire engines with a 73-member crew, two firefighting teams on foot assisted by 5 firefighting aircraft and 6 water dropping helicopters are battling the blaze.

Strong winds, up to 8 on the Beaufort scale are blowing in the area.

According to the Fire Brigade, the fire that broke out at dawn in the area of Fygia in the municipality of Karystos, Evia, was delimited. A total of 64 firefighters continue to operate in the area with 26 vehicles, a group on foot, while 9 helicopters and an aircraft are assisting from the air.

Volunteer firefighters, water carriers, the Coast Guard and the Red Cross are also participating in the operation.
