A team of firefighters from Israel are on their way to Greece to participate in the effort to contain the wildfires that are raging in the country, the Israeli Embassy said on Friday.

Specifically, it said that a team of 16 firefighters are coming to Greece, adding that Israel responded to the Greek government’s request for assistance via the Israeli Ambassador to Greece and symbolises the good relations between the two countries and people.

In a message the Foreign Minister of Israel Yair Lapid underlined that “Israel comes to Greece’s aid as an act of frienship and mutual support”. He also noted that the whole region is facing the challenges of the climate crisis and the wildfires are threatening human lives and assets.

On his part, the Ambassador of Israel to Greece Yoshi Amrani stated that “the terrible pictures we saw in the last days did not leave any Israeli indifferent over the difficult times that Greece is facing. Israel is standing at Greece’s side with frienship and love for the country and its people. In these difficult times, our hearts and thoughts are with the people that are in the flames and with the firefighters that are incessantly trying to put out the fires. We are a front all together”.
