President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou attended an event held on Friday for the heroes of the anti-dictatorship struggle, which was held in the former detention centres of a Greek military police interrogation unit that operated during the 1967-1974 junta, on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the restoration of democracy.

Sakellaropoulou laid a wreath in memory of the victims of the dictatorship and was given a tour of the Museum of the Anti-dictatorship Democratic Resistance by representatives of the Association of Imprisoned Exiles 1967-74.

“Today is a day of honour and remembrance for all those who fought, were tortured, exiled so that today we can enjoy the benefits of democracy,” Sakellaropoulou said in a statement.

“They fought for democracy, for freedom, for human rights. And we must, in addition to honouring them, keep this memory alive, so that we never experience such moments again,” the President of the Republic underlined.
