Τhe first consignment of 181 containers to be used for medical facilities and housing for refugees in Greece arrived from Austria on Thursday at Cargo Goldair’s premises in Sindos, near Thessaloniki.
They were received by Alternate Migration & Asylum Minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos and Austrian Ambassador Hermine Poppeler, who welcomed the arrival as a practical proof of European solidarity of Austria to Greece.

The 60 containers are part of a two-year concession agreement signed between the two countries on Tuesday. Of today’s arrivals, 40 containers will head to Samos island: 30 to decongest the dangerously overcrowded Vathy hotspot and 10 to replace those burned during incidents recently.

Each container has a surface area of 18 sq.m. and up to three may be attached to reach 40 sq.m. They are insulated and provide heating, air conditioning and electricity, while some include a bath.
