Greece on track to meet EU targets on climate change, EU sources say




Greece is well on track to meet the targets set by the European Union on addressing the climate change until 2020 regarding the participation of renewable source to the energy balance, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the improvement of the energy performance, according to European Commission sources.

At an event held in Brussels on Monday, the same sources said that all members states will notify their targets for 2030 by the end of the year while in November the Commission will present its strategy for the climate change until 2050.
The same sources said that Greece is playing a strategic role on the improvement of energy safety and sources of supply in the wider region mostly with the implementation of the natural gas south corridor which includes the TAP pipeline that starts from the Greek-Turkish borders and will transfer gas from Azerbaijan via Greece and Italy.
