The Environment ministry will abolish two fees on electricity production, says Giorgos Stathakis

Energy producers and suppliers will benefit from the abolition of two fees imposed on electricity, Environment and Energy Minister Giorgos Stathakis told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Monday.

Stathakis said that the move will also benefit consumers and the Public Power Corporation (PPC).

PPC stands to gain at least 200-250 million euros from 2018 to 2020, he noted, with the first fee’s abolition, while producers will benefit to the tune of 25-30 million euros on an annual basis.

The first fee was imposed on suppliers and the second was imposed on lignite, used as fuel at PPC.

The decision to do away with both fees is a result of the completion of the consolidation of a special account carried out by the ministry, and will be implemented through a regulation to be tabled this week in Parliament.
