Greek people should vote on direction of constitutional revisions, ND proposes

New Democracy (ND) expressed support on Monday for the revision of the constitution, an issue raised by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in a letter to party leaders the same day.

The main opposition party said “conditions have been ripe for a while now for a courageous constitutional change” but it expressed doubt on the motives behind the PM’s initiative.

Charging Tsipras with “frantically looking for opportunities to get a majority to last for a few months longer”, the party reiterated its official position. Party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, it said, “proposeod that all articles introduced by government and opposition parties should be left open to revision, and the Greek people should decide on the direction of the changes through their vote in the upcoming elections.”
