The European Investment Bank will help finance the improvement of civil protection in Greece

Alternate Economy Minister Alexis Charitsis has contacted the head of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Werner Hoyer and asked for financial assistance in coping with the aftermath of the deadly fires in eastern Attica, as well as help in developing infrastructure to avoid similar disasters in the future, sources said on Sunday.

The bank has replied affirmatively, the sources said, and will announce further details of the agreement after it has more fully processed the proposals. Its assistance will concern the development of a comprehensive programme to reinforce civil protection for tackling wildfires, including the purchase of planes and vehicles, repairing damage to public buildings and carrying flood protection works, reforestation and technical support.
