Parliament discussion on a motion of censure tabled by main opposition New Democracy leader

Parliament discussion on a motion of censure tabled by main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis began at 18:00 on Thursday, shortly after the vote on an omnibus bill containing the remaining prior actions for the fourth and final review of Greece’s fiscal programme.

The discussion will conclude by 2:00 pm on Saturday, Parliament’s presidium decided.
When Mitsotakis announced he would table the motion, he made extensive reference to Greece’s agreement with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) on the name issue and accused the government of handling both the economy and national issues in a dangerous way and without parliamentary legitimacy.
“Tsipras is about to sign an agreement and bind the country to a framework that will create a fait accompli. The combination of economic and national issues is not accidental, it is a conscious choice to distract attention from the issues of the economy,” he added.
The debate on the motion of censure must end no later than midnight on the third day after it begins and is followed by a roll-call vote. A motion of censure is only accepted if it is supported by an absolute majority of all 300 MPs elected to Parliament.
