PM Tsipras to brief president on developments in FYROM name issue on Saturday morning

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is due to visit President of the Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos at the presidential mansion at 9:30 on Saturday morning, in order to brief him on developments in the negotiations for a solution to the FYROM name issue.

After the meeting, Tsipras will make a round of telephone calls to each of the political party leaders to also brief them on the developments.

Earlier, sources said that the government will not retreat from its red lines as regards the FYROM name issue but insist on both a single name for all uses and a revision of the country’s constitution.

“Erga omnes with a constitutional revision is a necessary condition for an agreement,” they stressed, adding that “the implementation of constitutional revision is a prerequisite for joining international organisations (EU-NATO).
