PM Alexis Tsipras will visit Sofia for the EU-West Balkans Summit, meet with FYROM’s Zoran Zaev




The EU-West Balkans Summit to be held on Thursday in Sofia will be based on the 2003 Thessaloniki Declaration, which stated unequivocally that “the future of the Balkans is within the European Union”, and will reaffirm the European perspective of the countries of the West Balkans.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will go to Sofia on Wednesday to take part in the work of the European Council and the EU-West Balkans Summit. On Wednesday, at 19:30-22:30, he will take part in the working dinner of the leaders of the 28 EU member states, which was invited by European Council President Donald Tusk.

Tsipras will hold a bilateral meeting with FYROM Prime Minister Zoran Zaev that will take place on Thursday, at 10:15-11:15, on the sidelines of the summit. Before tomorrow’s meeting, the two leaders will be both present at the Party of European Socialists (PES) summit and a dinner.

The proceedings of the summt will be held on Thursday, at 10:00-13:00, followed by a working lunch of the heads of state on strengthening EU-Western Balkans co-operation on security issues.
