Greece welcomes FYROM’s acceptance of an “erga omnes” name, government spokesman says

The Greek government welcomes as a positive development the acceptance by FYROM’s leadership – for the first time – of ‘erga omnes’ in a solution of the name dispute, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said on Monday.
However, the Greek side, he added, insists that that the best solution would be to choose a name from among those proposed by the UN mediator Matthew Nimetz.
In statements to Realfm, he said that positive steps have been made in the negotiations with FYROM but the two sides still had a significant distance to cover “before we can talk about a final agreement”.
“Several proposals have been submitted, but the Greek side insists that the best solution is a name from among those proposed by Matthew Nimetz. Of course, we are discussing the proposals of our neighbours, but negotiations are held in a specific context and it is good to stick to it,” he said and noted:
“We welcome the fact that erga omnes is accepted by our neighbours, we continue to negotiate responsibly,” he underlined.
Greece’s position is that, in order for a final agreement to be reached, the two sides must agree on a single name for all uses, or erga omnes.
