Energy Minister Stathakis: Bill for sale of PPC’s lignite units in Parliament by mid-March

The draft bill for the sale of lignite units belonging to the Public Power Corporation (PPC), part of Greece’s prior actions, will be tabled in Parliament by mid-March, Environment and Energy Minister George Stathakis said on Monday following a meeting with representatives of the country’s creditors in Athens.

The lignite units are located in Florina, western Macedonia, and in Megalopoli in the Peloponnese.

The bill will include provisions on labor issues and on the process to be followed for the privatization breakoff of the lignite units from PPC.

Responding to press questions, Stathakis said that discussion with the representatives of the creditors included the privatization of energy companies and alternatives to it. Issues related to PPC’s finances will be discussed at a separate meeting with the company’s leadership, he said.
