The key is good neighbourly relations, Commission spokesman says on FYROM name issue

Preserving good neighbourly relations is an issue of great importance for the European Union, alternate European Commission spokesman Alexander Winterstein said on Friday, when asked to comment on the FYROM name issue.

The European Commission believes that maintaining good neighbourly relations, including in the negotiations for a mutually acceptable solution to the name issue under UN auspices, remains essential, Winterstein said, while welcoming steps taken by all the sides involved to participate in the talks.

Winterstein refused to speculate on whether and to what extent the present time constitutes a “window of opportunity” for a solution, repeating that for the Commission “the key is good neighbourly relations.”
