Εvery member-state must abide by the European acquis, says President Pavlopoulos

All European Union member-states and peoples must abide by European law and the European acquis, President of Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos said on Monday, in response to an Athens-Macedonian News Agency question concerning developments in Spain and Catalonia and whether there will be consequences for Europe.
These developments affect Europe as a whole, the Greek president said in Belgrade, during a joint press conference with Serb President Aleksandar Vucic, underlining that every EU state and all European peoples have rights and responsibilities and must follow European laws and rules.
“If we believe in Europe,” stated Pavlopoulos, “we must make compromises, because Europe is not a forum for resolving differences as we see fit.”
On his part, Vucic said that Serbia supports Spain’s territorial integrity, adding that he has already sent a letter to Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. He said that Europe should not adopt different standards in its treatment of Catalonia and Kosovo, pointing out that Europe had not shown the same sensitivity where Kosovo was concerned.
“Unfortunately, the bear is now knocking on their door,” Vucic said.
