There is no problem with the Saronic Gulf, in regards to pollution levels from oil. People can swim where they swam before the tanker “Agia Zoni II” sank, Ioannis Hatzianestis, senior researcher at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) told Athens-Macedonian News Agency’s radio station Praktoreio 104.9 FM.
Main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis once again demanded the resignation of Shipping Minister Panagiotis Kouroumblis on Wednesday, during a heated altercation in parliament regarding the sunken tanker “Agia Zoni II” and the resulting oil spill.
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday ordered that all certificates of seaworthiness that have received extensions should be immediately revoked and for the ships involved to undergo emergency inspections, during a meeting with the shipping ministry leadership at the Maximos Mansion.
The prime minister must accept Shipping Minister Panagiotis Kouroumblis’ resignation, New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday while touring areas affected by the oil spill in the Saronic Gulf.
