Flag installation ceremony of the newly elected member states at the Security Council: UN Ambassador Sekeris highlights Greece’s key role
The Permanent Representative of Greece to the UN Ambassador Evangelos Sekeris, expressed his gratitude to the member states that voted for Greece and conveyed the sense of responsibility for Greece’s participation in the Security Council at a critical international juncture.
Sekeris, in his speech during the flag installation ceremony of the newly elected member states at the Security Council, said,
“ Together with Denmark, Pakistan, Panama, and Somalia, Greece will serve as an elected UNSC member for the next two years.”.
He also “ committed to a foreign policy based on principles, values, and international law,” and he reiterated Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis’ statement that “ Greece looks forward to acting as a stabilizing factor, serving as a bridge between the North and the South, the East and the West, while contributing to restoring the true meaning of the principle of the peaceful resolution of disputes.”
Sekeris also acknowledged the outstanding service provided by five outgoing members: Ecuador, Japan, Switzerland, Malta, and Mozambique, over the past two years. He concluded by addressing the audience in Greek, emphasising the significance of this moment for Greece on the international stage.
