US Assistant Sec’y for Energy Pyatt visiting Athens: Meeting with FM Gerapetritis on Wednesday

Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis will have a working meeting on Wednesday at 10:30 with US Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt, a foreign ministry announcement said on Tuesday.

Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt will visit Athens and Istanbul on October 8-10 to discuss  regional energy transitions and energy security priorities with ministers and the private sector.

Pyatt will discuss the promotion of US-Greece energy cooperation with senior Greek officials, including from the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He will also meet with leaders of energy companies to discuss opportunities in clean energy development and improving regional connectivity.

The assistant secretary will also address an EU event on diversifying the natural gas supply in Southeastern and Central Europe and advance the joint US-EU goal for fully disengaging from dependence on Russian energy by 2027.

In Türkiye, from October 9 to 10, Pyatt will participate in the Regional Clean and Secure Energy Conference of the think tank Atlantic Council. The conference will include representatives from Albania, North Macedonia, and Romania.

According to a State Department statement, “The delegates will discuss advancing clean energy development and collective efforts to grow the region’s leadership in energy security. He [Geoffrey Pyatt] will also continue our work to build support for Ukraine’s energy resilience this winter.”
