Gerapetritis underlined that the EU, “the larger it is, the stronger it becomes,” and added that as the oldest Balkan member state in the EU and as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Greece “will once again lead the process of accession” for the countries in the region.
The minister also clarified that the Western Balkan countries must respect the EU acquis without exceptions, as well as International Law, including international treaties, and the principles emanating from the rule of law.
“In the midst of war, upheaval in the greater region, it is important that the Balkans become a pillar of calmness, peace, and prosperity,” Gerapetritis added.
