Dendias and Papastergiou hold meeting on satellite communications for the armed forces

Defence Minister Nikos Dendias and Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou held a meeting to discuss collaboration on satellite communications for the Armed Forces.

The meeting covered the acquisition and operation of the National Satellite and its use by the Armed Forces, as well as cooperation between the Ministry of Digital Governance and the Hellenic Center for Defence Innovation.

“The Armed Forces are entering a new era where digital technologies are essential to implement the doctrine of deterrence,” Dendias emphasized.

“We are discussing the issue of the Armed Forces’ communications satellite, which is a necessary condition for their modernization, as well as the topic of micro-satellites and installations in existing Armed Forces structures by entities under the Ministry of Digital Governance,” he added.

Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou stated, “It is impressive that Greece is now at the center of the space ecosystem. Both the projects underway and the interest from major space technology companies position our country at the forefront of developments.”

“We are deepening our collaborations through the National Micro-Satellite Program, which includes a satellite component and a ground hub for data collection and processing. The consultation on the new telecommunications satellite also went very well,” Papastergiou added.
