The President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, inaugurated Cavafy’s House in Alexandria on Saturday, a restoration project undertaken by the Onassis Foundation.

Sakellaropoulou expressed her joy and excitement upon inaugurating the newly renovated Cavafy House in Alexandria, emphasizing that the project was executed with special care by the Onassis Foundation.

“The enhancement of this space, where the spirit of Cavafy’s unique poetry still circulates, constitutes a significant contribution not only to the Greek community of Alexandria and to Greek scholars and admirers of Cavafy’s work, but also to the global community, which recognized in his verses a great poet of the 20th century,” she said.

The President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni and the Chairman of the Onassis Foundation Antonis S. Papadimitriou were guided through the house by the head of the Cavafy’s Archive Marianna Christofi.
