Tsipras is repeating his political mistakes, Economou says

“[Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis] Tsipras, with his big promises to the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), proved that he has not come to his senses since the tragic mistakes of his political path and does not have even a rudimentary understanding of the complex and difficult reality in Greece and Europe,” government spokesperson Yannis Economou said on Monday during a press briefing.

“On Saturday, he managed to make the ‘Thessaloniki programme’ that he had once presented appear meagre. And on Sunday, he pressed on undismayed, promising even more,” he commented.

Economou underlined that “[Tsipras] can promise everything to everyone since he will not be called upon to implement it anyway. But this cannot be an alibi because the things he announced, the measures he outlined, would with mathematical certainty, if they were ever implemented, lead the country to a new default from the ballooning of the deficit and lead society to a crisis worse than that of the memoranda as the international reality is now inexorable for all of Europe.”
He accused the main opposition leader of a lack of seriousness and responsibility and added that “while he presented the image of a country that is almost destroyed, at the same time he was handing out tens of billions. Money to everyone and recruitment everywhere, without any research, without data, without convincingly answering where the funding will come from.”
