“Throughout his political career, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stands out for his adherence to the institutions and consistency between words and actions, which are fundamental conditions of a modern democracy,” government spokesperson Yiannis Economou said on Monday during a press briefing.

During his term as prime minister, he proved in the midst of huge crises that the compass of his policy is stability so that Greek citizens and foreign investors are confident and can plan their lives and their actions without any surprises,” he underlined.

He referred to what the prime minister also said in parliament the previous week, namely that the elections will be held at the end of the government’s four-year term, and that his decision was based both on considerations of institutional order and political stability, at a time when Europe was facing and will continue to face unprecedented shocks as long as the successive international crises last.

He emphasised that “Greece cannot and should not be plunged into a political crisis at the most critical time,” and referred to the prime minister’s words in his recent interview that he is willing to bear the political cost in order to ensure stability.
