Suspected terrorist arrested in Thessaloniki after bank robbery

A 46-year-old man was arrested in Thessaloniki on Monday for involvement in a terrorist group, “Revolutionary Self-defense”, tied to attacks at PASOK and the Mexican and French embassies.
The man, identified only by his initials (D.Ch.), was arrested shortly after robbery at an Alpha Bank branch in the northern Greek city with kalashnikovs.
D.Ch. was being sought on a warrant issued 1.5 years ago after two other group members were arrested at a safe house. At the time, he had escaped although self-injured in the foot earlier at a holdup in a betting OPAP shop in Holargos (Oct. 2019).
He was handed over to the counterterrorism police which will transport him to Athens, while the house he was staying at is being searched.
“Revolutionary Self-defense” had assumed responsibility for kalashnikov attacks against police at the headquarters of PASOK party on Charilaou Trikoupi in downtown Athens and the Embassy of Mexico, and a handgrenade attack against the French Embassy, among others.
