Greek state budget primary surplus up 605 million euros in Jan-July, compared to the previous year




Greece’s state budget primary surplus was 605 million euros higher in the January-July period this year compared with the same period in 2017, the State Budget Office in Parliament said in a report released on Monday.

The report said that the state budget’s cash primary surplus was 969 million euros lower compared with the seven-month period last year. Budget revenue showed an increase in tax revenue by 300 million euros and Public Investment Program revenue by 272 million euros in the January-July period, while privatization revenue was down 741 million euros on an annual basis.

State budget spending showed an increase of 325 million euros, attributed to an increase in primary spending by 931 million euros. Capital spending fell 725 million euros and Public Investment Program spending were down 119 million euros in the seven-month period.

State companies showed an increase in revenue by 71 million euros and lower spending by 188 million euros, reporting a cash primary result improved by 209 million euros on an annual basis. Local authorities reported increase revenue (564 million euros) and higher spending (325 million euros), resulting in a surplus increase by 236 million euros on an annual basis.

Social Insurance agencies reported higher revenue (594 million euros) and increased spending (1.166 billion euros) resulting in a deterioration of their cash primary surplus by 574 million euros on an annual basis.
The general government’s arrears fell by 594 million euros in the seven-month period of 2018, after an increase of 519 million euros in the same period last year.
