Ankara’s intransigence undermined a serious effort to resolve Cyprus problem, ND’s Koumoutsakos says

Ankara’s intransigence on security issues and the presence of occupation troops as well as its insistence on maintaining unreasonable intervention rights in Cyprus have undermined a very serious effort to resolve the Cyprus problem, main opposition New Democracy (ND) shadow foreign minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos said on Friday.

He noted that the international community is well aware where the responsibilities lie and from now on it should actively contribute to avoiding the abandonment of the efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem and the end of the forty-year illegal occupation of the northern part of the island and prevent any attempt questioning Cyprus’ sovereign rights that would cause tension and insecurity in the wider region of the eastern Mediterranean.

“Our support to the actions of Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades is firm and constant,” Koumoutsakos underlined.
