Anastasiades: Properties and pending issues to be discussed in November

President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades described his meeting today with the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci as constructive and productive, noting that in November the Cyprus talks will be intensified.

In statements at the Presidential Palace, after returning from a meeting he held today with the Turkish Cypriot leader in the framework of the UN – led Cyprus talks, President Anastasiades said that in November the leaders will be discussing all pending issues as well as the issue of properties.

”It was a constructive meeting and it has been decided to intensify the talks with six meetings in November, to examine not only the issue of properties but also the pending issues”, the President said.

Replying to questions, he noted that one should not expect that in November the negotiations will conclude in such a way that we will come to a solution.

“I wish this is the case, if there is also good will from the other side. But in any case what I want to say is that it was a good and productive meeting today,” the President concluded.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory. Anastasiades and Akinci have been engaged in UN-backed talks since May this year with the aim to reunite the island under a federal roof.
